Panorama City is known as the San Fernando Valley’s first planned community and it is considered to be the Heart of the Valley to this day. Panorama City was developed in the late 1940s by residential developer Fritz B. Burns and industrialist Henry Kaiser of Kaiser Permanente, following a post-World War II housing boom. Panorama City is bordered by Mission Hills on the north, Arleta on the northeast, Sun Valley on the east, Valley Glen on the southeast, Van Nuys on the south and North Hills on the west. Panorama City has three high schools, two recreational centers, a senior center, and the Los Angeles Kings Valley Ice Center. Historically, Panorama City was the largest center of major retail outlets in the San Fernando Valley. Two of its most iconic shopping centers today include the Panorama Mall and Plaza del Valle.
